It is not always easy to be able to get a sense of what you do and how this impacts upon others, working with Louise Bricknell made this implicit information explicit. This was profoundly useful to me, particular gains include:
- being open to working in different ways.
- Maintaining my creative integrity (I am a designer) while meeting KPI’s and other professional appraisal measurements.
- Developing my confidence to ‘fail-fast’.
- Understanding what personal strengths and weaknesses I bring to my team.
- Aligning my personal values and professional attributes – giving me a much clearer sense of purpose in all areas of my life.

Managing the marketing and strategic directions of a business employing over 100 people means competing demands are a daily reality for me and my staff. These demands can be personally and professionally divisive. Working with Louise Bricknell has allowed me to:
- develop valuable resources that have enabled me to understand my decision making process – personally and professionally.
- Bring creative solutions to structural problems.
- Become more resilient and work more intuitively – in all areas of my life.
- Increased my confidence and motivation to reach my potential.
- Develop a strong framework to review, evaluate and align my professional and personal directions.
- Embrace change – whatever it brings.

The staff, students and myself would like to offer you a big thanks for all you have done.
It is wonderful to hear Fine Art students talk about structure so enthusiastically – and that is down to you. When you started you mentioned, humbly, that you knew nothing about art – yet you have taught us all so much.
The learning and leading pathways you supported each student to embrace – using their individual pieces of artwork – was creative work at its best. You started exactly where they were – their art; you helped them to understand where they were, and how they got there – how they created. You did it all with a smile.
Your ability to work with information and relate it to any context in ways that are engaging, inclusive and illuminating for all parties is exceptional; as are your communication and team building skills.
Fine Art students can be skeptical, sometimes, of teaching and learning contexts that are not deemed relevant to the work of Fine Art, you met this skepticism head on with grace, courage and equanimity, and connected to all our students in ways that staff found inspirational.
We look forward to working – or rather creating – with you again.

Running a successful expedition and training company requires working with people that are able to tap in to their critical thinking. Taking on challenging roles and adapting to the situation are essential, there is no room for ego or selfishness, just focus.
Innate skills in communication are hard to find, especially in the face of emotional and stressed clients, diplomacy and empathy combined with coercive encouragement are frequently needed to get to the finish line.
Being able to help people to get the best out of themselves is something Louise excels at. If you need someone who will keep their head and get results, Louise is your answer.

I have had the pleasure of working with Louise Bricknell on a number of occasions. Each of these were significant in that they were ‘out of comfort zone experiences’ for students and most staff. Louise assisted in developing these experiences, in particular, she designed a Leading and Learning experience for Year 9 students at Melbourne Grammar School.
This program was created and implemented by Louise as a response to a request by key school stake holders to provide evidence of how individual students’ learnt and lead (these criteria underpin Melbourne Grammar School’s Mission Statement). The School required a solution to this problem that delivered evidence to School Stake holders and senior school staff, and provided students with experiential opportunities to reflect on how they learnt and lead in different contexts.
Louise’s designed a solution through the development of an off campus learning and leading experience. The multi day experience took place in the Victorian High Country. It was a creative endeavour with positive results.
Each student left the adventure with explicit insights into how they learnt and how they led. Moreover, they left with a visual recollection of these experiences - via a DVD they made with Louise. The electronic record provided the evidence required by stake holders as well as delivering important insights into student learning experiences for school staff.
The project was very well received by all members of the school’s community, and a great experience for everyone involved. In particular, it highlighted Louise’s:
- abilities to create ideas and implement them.
- Leadership and communication skills; every stake holder group involved with the project was delighted with the result and received regular updates relating to the project’s progression.
- Resilience and capacity for sheer hard work over an extended period of time.
- Creativity, every situation was turned into an opportunity to support students’ reflect on how they learnt and led.
- Personality, regardless of the context, Louise always sought to include everyone and embraced every challenge with a smile.

It is a privilege to write a reference for Dr. Louise Bricknell, matched only by the privilege it is to work with her: creative, innovative- a forward thinker who is academically rigorous.
There is nothing Dr. Bricknell cannot do, and do well. Her tenacity to finish projects, often working against the odds, is inspiring. The most contentious and challenging of situations she handles with grace and ease.
A skilled communicator, Dr Bricknell is adept at supporting others to look at things differently.
A rare individual, especially as she does all this and more with a great sense of fun and humility. A joy to work with; highly competent and always professional.

First and fore most, I would to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Louise Bricknell, for all her hard work. I know I can speak for all the staff and students when I say that we love having you and your guides involved with school learning experiences.
We have always been very happy with the work you do with our students, in particular we are impressed with:
- the amount of time and care you give to the students - ALL the students.
- Your ability to adapt to each group and to tune into the needs of individual students in sometimes short time periods.
- The sense of fun you bring to everything.
- The creative way you support each student to excel in their own way.
- Your patience, humility and absolute attention to detail.
As Head of Outdoor Education for Tintern Schools, I would personally like to comment on
Dr Bricknell’s professionalism, resourcefulness and work ethic. The latter is impressive, leading with a smile all day and participating in whatever the students/teaching staff require of you in the evening.
Whatever the school requests Dr Bricknell’s response is immediate. Her Risk Management documentation is a template of excellence for outdoor activity based school programs; itineraries, procedural documents, relevant permits, detailed quotes and route analyses are submitted ahead of schedule and often without request - nothing is too big an ask. Thank you.
It really is a pleasure to engage Dr Louise Bricknell’s business in Tintern School’s outdoor education programs: thorough, fun, efficient, effective. Her team represent outstanding role models for male, female, transgender students and staff alike.
It is fantastic to see a woman running an outdoor adventure business, leading male guides. The respect they show you and vice versa is an excellent example of teams working well: you compliment each other and provide an exciting and inclusive energy for everyone (including teaching staff) to have a go.
It is thrilling for staff to watch students who would normally approach out of comfort zone experiences with caution throw themselves, sometimes literally, into your nuanced skills programs. We know that these contexts don’t just happen, they require careful management, self awareness, adherence to procedural requirements, resourcefulness, an open and creative mind and a great team; congratulations for putting all that together.

It was a pleasure to work with Dr Louise Bricknell in the Faculty of Business at RMIT University. I found her work with deliberate creativity insightful to say the least and a great platform from which to inspire and challenge Economics and Finance students to think out of the square and combine deliberateness with creativity.
Dr Bricknell's ability to connect too and engage students and staff, regardless of the context, is creative thinking at its best. The way Dr Brickell connects and links diverse information and student experiences to the operations side of a business is exceptional and inspiring.
Working with Dr Bricknell has provided me with a lot of food for thought: I am taking her ideas, and learning and leading strategies, back to Colorado.
